akt is a small charity that provides support and housing solutions to 16-25 year old LGBTQ+ people who are homeless or living in a hostile environment.
These young people have often suffered abuse, violence or rejection because of their gender identity or sexual orientation and have become estranged from their family on ‘coming out’.
The charity delivers work in London, Manchester and Newcastle upon Tyne, by providing support services to enable young people to find a safe and sustainable place to live and get their lives back on track.
Global’s Make Some Noise is proud to support the charity’s Director of Services role, providing support, advice and access to accommodation for young homeless LGBTQ+ people.
The charity’s volunteering mentoring service gives support to young people in crisis and helps them move on to independent living. We’ll also be supporting the charity’s Purple Door service, which is an emergency safe house for LGBTQ+ young people.
At Purple Door, young people who are facing street homelessness or fleeing domestic violence can find the safety and space to secure longer term housing, employment, training, debt management solutions whilst learning to live independently.
With your help, we can support akt and many more charities across the UK.
