Global’s Make Some Noise is supporting charities like BSWA which supports women and children experiencing domestic violence through online chats and over the phone.
The demand for their services has grown dramatically as day-to-day support access points are no longer accessible or present significant barriers to help. The charity is experiencing non-stop calls for help and advice.
The charity wants and needs to be able to help and defend the long term financial, mental health and housing wellbeing of these women and their families. Coronavirus has further trapped them in abusive situations and limiting their options in terms of their housing.
The prolonged effect of this is expected to leave the charity with more need for their services, demanding them to grow and adapt to city-centre drop-ins, women’s housing options and even how women can be referred.
BSWA developed their webchat service within a week to meet with the rise in demand for their services and adapt for those that can’t contact them over the phone. They’ve also extended hours and increased working to weekend and bank holidays as well as providing food parcels and grants for essential items to those that are experiencing financial crisis.
