We’re proud to support Carers Leeds as one of our charities for 2018 because of the amazing work they do offering support to young carers.
The charity provides one-to-one support, peer support and activities, helping young people to manage their caring role, while also working with them to improve their confidence, self-esteem and social life outside of the family home.
When we heard about Carers Leeds, we wanted to help because of young people like Lauren, who is 23 years old and registered blind. Lauren cares for her mum, who has multiple sclerosis (MS), and her dad, who has an inoperable illness. Like many carers her age, Lauren’s dual caring roles have affected her mental health.
Since joining Carers Leeds, Lauren has really benefited from her time with the charity’s Young Adult Carer groups and trips, where she has been able to make friends with other young carers.
She told the charity: “If it wasn’t for Carers Leeds I wouldn’t be as confident as I am now. I’ve made a lot of new friends. Carers Leeds has given me so many great opportunities. A few months ago I would have never thought I’d be able to do some of the things I’ve done“.
Global’s Make Some Noise is supporting the charity’s ‘Young People Who Care’ project, which provides young carers with the support they need to manage their personal time, finances, education and employment, while also putting together plans for their own health and emotional wellbeing.
