Amelie's story

When Amelie was diagnosed with a tumour, she faced major surgery and a long recovery. With support from a project funded by Make Some Noise at WOLO, she rebuilt her strength, returned to the things she loved and met other children who understood her journey.

"The first sign of my tumour was when I started seeing double of things. I went in an ambulance to hospital to have surgery, it was 12 hours long.

When I came back from hospital I needed someone to help me get stronger. I had the physio for 1 year and it helped me recover more quickly. I could do climbing, I could do swimming, I could go back to school.

It's really nice to meet other kids that have been through the same thing as me. Some of the treatments made my hair fall out, and the people understood that which was quite nice.

It's just helped our family get a bit stronger and just helped us through the hard times that we've had."

And for Amelie's brother Toby, the support meant he could spend time with his family away from the hospital; "It was just nice to be with people who know what we're going through. You could just have a some time away from the hospital and busy world, and just have a bit of fun away from the sadness and troubled times. They really look after everyone in the family, it's helped us a lot."
