Jack's story

Jack was struggling with his mental health and felt unable to find the support he needed. Through a project funded by Make Some Noise at Nai’s House, he found practical tools, connection and a safe space when he needed it most. This is Jack’s story:

"I was struggling quite heavily with my mental health and I didn't feel that other services available to me were able to help me in the way that I needed. I would spend days in bed, I wouldn't talk to anyone, I couldn't sleep. I just wouldn't do anything with myself, because your brain is so focused on the negative, you completely forget about the positive.

As a young adult, you don't have the tools. It feels like that's what you get from Nai's House, with the workshops, particularly ways of breaking that cycle and tools to understand what's going on and how to change it. For me it has made a really big difference within my everyday life, just thinking more about how I respond to certain things. Because struggling with such intense emotions from such a young age, you'll feel something at either 0 or 100. Without the skills, you'd never be able to mediate and find a middle ground.

Having other people that have been through similar experiences or are also have previously struggled with their mental health, it makes you feel like you're not the only one that's facing bad things. It makes you feel like it's not just the world against you.

If there were more places like Nai's House that people were able to get in contact with, so many people's lives would be changed for the better. And so many lives would be saved as well. It's a safe place. It's something which people who are struggling with their mental health - they really need a place like that.

I really don't know where I'd be without Nai's House. I owe my life to them really, they did save me when I needed it the most."
