Global’s Make Some Noise is supporting charities like SPEAR which offers vital help to those experiencing homelessness in South West London.
Underlying health conditions and little access to washing facilities have left many rough sleepers even more vulnerable during the pandemic.
In addition, services such as food banks have seen a huge surge in demand over the past few months, leaving rough sleepers and those recently placed in housing struggling to eat.
SPEAR plays an essential role in getting them off the streets, having already helped accommodate 213 rough sleepers in South West London since the end of March.
The charity is also supporting their 186 residents across different hostels during lockdown, distributing and delivering donations of food and essentials like toiletries from local supermarkets and residents.
Staff are then on hand to help with healthcare, vocational skills, education and employment, as well as providing specialist support to women who have experienced domestic violence.
While SPEAR is continuing to house even more people every day, the charity has suffered a significant loss of income due to cancellation of fundraising activities, which makes donations more important than ever.
These much-needed funds are used to buy Personal Protection Equipment and sanitising gel to keep their staff and residents safe while delivering food supplies. The charity is also providing bedding, microwaves and hot food to rough sleepers moving into emergency accommodation during coronavirus. Outreach Workers are working tirelessly to find people sleeping rough and ensure they have a comfortable and safe place to stay.
