2016/17: The Hamlet

2016/17: The Hamlet

The Hamlet is a small charity based in Norfolk, which supports children with disabilities and complex health needs. Currently, over 500 families access its brilliant services each year.

The charity recognised a real gap in the availability of support for parents and carers looking after a young child with additional needs in the area – its aim is to provide a happy, safe environment that offers recreational, educational and social opportunities to help the youngsters it supports to unlock their potential.

Global’s Make Some Noise is proud to be helping to fund the role of a Lead Parenting and Care Practitioner, who will provide specialist support to children aged under 2 years and their families.

Children like Lily, who was introduced to The Hamlet aged just one year old. Her mum shared their story:

Lily has a genetic disorder that, as far as we are aware, nobody else in the world has. As a result, we don’t know what the future holds for Lily.

We were introduced to The Hamlet by our specialist Health Visitor when Lily was 1. We have attended the ‘Little Bees’ groups for sensory and musical development. These are wonderful activities that are both suitable for Lily’s ability and needs, and a safe place for her to explore and develop.

It was also great for me to meet parents in a similar situation and the staff at The Hamlet, who have been a great source of information, support and a shoulder to cry on. The Hamlet has made such a positive, important difference to our lives.
