2016/17: The Pepper Foundation

2016/17: The Pepper Foundation

The Pepper Foundation provides care to youngsters who have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition in the Chilterns area of Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The charity provides a nursing service to these youngsters in their own homes – a service which is available free of charge 24/7.

The Pepper Foundation aims to give patients the choice to stay at home during their illness, and to make their lives as happy and comfortable as possible. The service really is a vital lifeline to those it supports, like 15-year old Jamie and his family.

They have been supported by the Pepper Nurses for the last six years. Mum, Christine, said:

Jamie was born prematurely at 30 weeks and has congenital heart disease.  When he was only nine months old, he had two heart attacks and total organ failure. He depends on us for all his needs and it’s crucial that he’s with someone at all times who would be able to resuscitate him.”

As well as specialist nursing care, the Pepper Nurses also help provide some respite for his parents, enabling them to spend some time together.

They administer his medication, wash him and put him to bed, none of which your typical baby-sitter would be able to do.  Without them we’d be stuck – we’d never go out!” said Christine. “We’ve had to call the Pepper Nurses out on Sundays and even on Christmas Eve.  They are a Godsend.

Global’s Make Some Noise is proud to be supporting the charity, and funding the role of a Pepper Nurse, who will provide hospice at home care to children like Jamie.
