2018: Aled Jones Completes his Epic Wing Walking Flight!

Classic FM’s Aled Jones has faced his fear of flying by Wing Walking in the Air and has raised over £14,000 for Global’s Make Some Noise in the process!

Aled Jones’ Walking in the Air took on a whole new meaning when he took to the skies for a hair-raising flight. Classic FM’s listeners were in control of his nail-biting, wing walking challenge as the more money he raised, the higher, faster and steeper the pilot flew. With over £14,000 donated so far, Aled reached more than 6,500ft and speeds of 130mph!

Aled Jones took on his wing walking challenge for Global’s Make Some Noise

Aled told us: “It was without doubt, the scariest thing I have ever done in my life. Just before take off, I felt sick to my stomach, my heart was pounding and I thought, ‘Why am I standing on the wing of a plane?’. The flight was unbelievably windy and I began to relax until we did these 90° banks. I thought I was going to fall out! I tried to sing one line of Walking in the Air, but it was definitely the worst rendition I’ve given in my life. The whole wing walk was a mixture of fear and exhilaration and I’ve never been so relieved to be back on the ground. Thank you to everyone who has donated to Global’s Make Some Noise. Every pound will help change the lives of children, young people and their families across the UK. I did it for them and my 20-minute rollercoaster ride was definitely worth it!”

Aled reached over 6,500ft whilst wing walking!

Well done to Aled for taking on this dizzying challenge and a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far – your generosity will help to change young lives across the UK.
